Modern book publishing models, termed ‘global’ are decidedly Western in their orientation. Global publishing business determines this alignment. When adopted in Asian countries, these models, which are primarily monolingual and corporate, are not in sync with the deep-rooted diversity that is characteristic of Asian countries. Taking subcontinental India as a case in point, this segment will discuss the impact of Western models in Asian countries, as well as the unique opportunities that these countries have in the production and distribution of their books.
